Katalog E

Cover of the Katalog E
In theory and practise many technical terms are used, without their meanings being sufficiently clear. That can give rise for misunderstandings. The Katalog E, set up by the Committee for Definition of Terms in Trade and Distribution, aims at informing about the content of relevant terms in the areas of trade and distribution and by this at supporting a process of standardisation what regards the definition of these terms. A total of more than 40,000 copies of the first four editions, which are supported by the "Bundesministerium für Wirtschaft und Technologie" (Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology), were distributed since 1970. Over the years, the Katalog E got adapted successively, particularly to add new terms. In the 1995 published 4th edition were more than 237 main keywords defined.

A commission of experts from theory and practise, under its chairman Professor Müller-Hagedorn, has compiled now the fifth edition. It is based on a new system of categories, which take into account in the varied changes in trade and distribution. All definitions of the 4th edition were reviewed and - where necessary - revised. Particularly new terms of electronic trade (e-commerce and e-business), procurement policy, location and regional planning were added. This edition now amounts to 344 main keywords and numerous minor and supporting keywords.

Use the possibility to inform yourself about well-founded terms in trade and distribution. This reference book is addressed to a broad circle of representatives in business practice, government and judiciary, business organisations as well as teaching and educational institutions of all levels. The 5th edition of Katalog E has been published in February 2006 and can only be ordered from the "Institut für Handelsforschung".

In 2009 the original 5th German edition of the Katalog E was translated into English to address an international readership as well.
